Project Overview
As part of the comprehensive Nuodex site remediation, Envicon Group designed and provided construction quality assurance for a 14-acre geomembrane-lined stormwater detention pond. This engineered wetland system serves dual purposes: managing stormwater runoff from the remediated site while restoring critical wetland and fish habitat that had been degraded by decades of industrial contamination.
The Challenge
The project required designing a stormwater management system that would meet stringent NJDEP requirements while also functioning as viable wetland habitat. The underlying contaminated soils necessitated a completely lined system to prevent any contact between clean water and subsurface contamination.
Our Solution
Envicon's team developed a multi-layer containment system incorporating a low-permeability clay cap, geomembrane liner system, and mechanical filtration components. The design balanced stormwater management requirements with ecological restoration goals, creating a sustainable wetland environment.
